Frequently asked questions.

When does STL Artists go live?

STL Artists is currently in its beta phase. We're onboarding a select group of artists ahead of the full public launch. Royalty tracking begins on January 1, 2026, with the first quarterly payout following Q1 2026 (subject to reaching the $30 payout threshold).

When do I get paid?

Your tones will start accumulating royalties (if they get usage) from January 1, 2026 onwards. Royalties will be calculated and distributed on a quarterly basis, with the first payout being after Q1 2026 (if you have reached the payout threshold of $30).

Are there any fees?

There are fees deducted from royalties processed:

US based Artists:

  • Platform fee = 5%
  • Transaction fee = $1 USD

Non-US based Artists:

  • Platform fee = 5%
  • Transaction fee = $4 USD
  • Currency conversion fee = 2%

Platform fees cover royalty tracking, merchant fees, automated payout management, and fraud prevention.

Do you withhold any taxes?

We may be required to withhold tax from royalty payouts to comply with US federal tax laws. The rate of withholding taxes will depend on the country where you are registered, whether you have submitted any tax information or forms, and whether or not an applicable tax treaty exists.

Is there a payout threshold?

Yes. To keep payouts efficient, a minimum threshold of $30 must be reached before a payment is issued. Any balance below that amount rolls over to the following quarter.

Do I get a payment breakdown?

Absolutely. Your dashboard includes an earnings report, showing which presets or captures generated revenue and how your royalties were calculated.

Can I track my earnings and preset usage?

Yes. You have access to real-time analytics that show usage, downloads, and performance trends for each preset, capture, or expansion you publish.

How are royalties calculated?

Each product has its own royalty pool, funded by STL Tones subscription revenue. Your percentage of the total usage of all artists, will be the percentage you earn from the royalty pool.

Example: If your tones were 5% of the total usage, you would earn 5% of the royalty pool.

The size of the royalty pool grows with STL's subscription revenue and is calculated every month.

Do I keep ownership of my tones?

Yes. You retain full ownership of the copyright in your tones. Your content will continue to belong to you while it's available on STL Tones platforms.

How are my preset usages tracked?

Each time a preset is loaded/used within ToneHub or ControlHub, that session is securely tracked in our system. Earnings are calculated based on the total hours of usage across all customers, not on how many times a preset is downloaded.

Your Artist dashboard aggregates this usage data so you can see daily insights, including which presets are used the most, how long they're played, and how your overall earnings are trending.

All tracking is fully anonymous and linked only to preset IDs. No personal or identifiable customer data is ever collected or shared.

What are the supported payment methods?

Payments are made through direct bank transfer.

Can I get featured and promoted on STL Tones channels?

Absolutely! Top-performing artists and tones are regularly showcased across our platforms. We also love meeting new artists, so if you have content you're proud of, submit it for a chance to collaborate on promotions with STL Tones.

What gear can I capture?

You can capture any hardware/software setups of your choice, including amps, pedals, cabs, and studio signal chains.

Can an artist inflate their own usage?

No. We have multiple fraud systems in place to prevent this activity, ensuring the platform remains fair for all artists.
