Program Timeline
Here's what to expect as the STL Artists program rolls out.
Payment Schedule
Understanding when and how you get paid is important. Here's everything you need to know about the payment process.
When Do I Get Paid?
Your tones will start accumulating royalties from January 1, 2026 onwards (if they get usage). Royalties are calculated and distributed on a quarterly basis, meaning every three months.
Quarterly Payment Schedule:
- Q1 Payout (April): Earnings from January-March
- Q2 Payout (July): Earnings from April-June
- Q3 Payout (October): Earnings from July-September
- Q4 Payout (January): Earnings from October-December
Payment Methods
Payments are processed through Trolley, which supports direct bank transfer.
International Payments: Trolley supports payments to over 200 countries in multiple currencies. Currency conversion fees may apply for non-USD payments (see Fees section for details).
Payment Breakdown
Every quarter, you'll receive a detailed earnings report in your artist dashboard showing:
- Which presets or captures generated revenue
- Total usage hours for each piece of content
- Gross earnings before fees
- Fee breakdown
- Net payout amount
How Royalties Are Calculated
The STL Artists royalty system is designed to be fair, transparent, and directly tied to how much your content is actually used.
The Royalty Pool System
Each product (ToneHub and ControlHub) has its own royalty pool, which is funded by STL Tones subscription revenue. The size of this pool grows as STL's subscription revenue increases.
How It Works:
Your percentage of the total usage of all artists will be the percentage you earn from the royalty pool.
Example: If your tones were 5% of the total usage across all artists, you would earn 5% of the royalty pool for that quarter.
Usage Tracking
Every time someone loads and uses your preset in ToneHub or ControlHub, that session is tracked. Royalties are based on total usage hours.
Fair & Transparent: This system ensures that artists whose content gets the most actual use earn the most royalties. It's not about who has the most downloads, but whose tones people actually play.
What Counts as Usage?
- Every time a preset is loaded in the plugin
- Active session time while your preset is in use
Privacy Protection: All tracking is completely anonymous and linked only to preset IDs. No personal or identifiable customer data is ever collected or shared.
Fees & Payout Thresholds
Understanding the fee structure helps you plan your earnings and maximize your royalties.
Fee Structure
Fees are deducted from royalties processed to cover platform operations, payment processing, and fraud prevention.
US-Based Artists
Non-US Based Artists
What Platform Fees Cover: Platform fees support royalty tracking infrastructure, payment processing through Trolley, automated payout management systems, fraud prevention technology, and artist dashboard analytics.
Payout Threshold
To keep payouts efficient and minimize transaction fees, there is a minimum threshold of $30 that must be reached before a payment is issued.
How Thresholds Work:
Any balance below $30 at the end of a quarter automatically rolls over to the following quarter. Once your accumulated balance reaches or exceeds $30, you'll receive your payment via Trolley.
Example Scenario
- Q1 2026: You earn $22 → Balance rolls over (no payout)
- Q2 2026: You earn $18 → Total balance $40 → You receive a payout
Analytics & Usage Tracking
Your artist dashboard provides comprehensive insights into how your content performs.
